Utilizing comprehensive design, illustration and technical artistic skills coupled with a fresh creative theory, Mark Garry’s unique style has quickly made an impression on the contemporary art market. As a Branding Visionary, the Minnesota native created a host of distinctive products for major corporate clients such as World Cup, Pokemon, Harry Potter, Levi’s, Quiksilver, Billabong, Stussy, Burton, Nike, Fila, Fox Racing and many others. While fully versed in the more technical, commercial side of the creative life, Garry never abandoned his passion for complete artistic expression.

”I have always been driven by creativity – whether working in the confines of the commercial realm or realizing my vision of self expression, the message for me is the art,” says Garry.

In his latest series, “Beyond Cartography”, Garry invokes not only the desire to travel, but also the strong human drive to explore the uncharted territories of knowledge. As in all of his work, the acrylic on panel pieces evidence his meticulous color placement and refined sanding and glazing techniques. These layers read like a fragmented story - each piece clues to an unwinding mystery. “I am constantly striving to learn. I don’t think that I am unique in this yearning. That may be why my work resonates with others,” explains Garry.

Mark Garry has been working as an illustrator, creative director, and artist for the past 18 years. His current work speaks to boundaries; both cultural and interpersonal. He is fascinated by the universal interconnectivity of the human condition and expresses this through form, gesture, color and texture. His compositions are solid, balanced, chaotic and hopeful. They reflect a world in transition. A world of borders lost and discovered, a world of fissures and healing.

Garry received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minnesota. He now resides in Laguna Beach, CA. This February, Mark Garry placed among the finalists for the largest art endowment ever offered by the city of Laguna Beach. His work hangs in commercial and private collections throughout the country.
