Back To Robinson Paintings

Phoenix, Arizona artist Damian Robinson’s innovative techniques involve applying paint to canvas through the art of chemistry. With exotic pigments, semi-precious metals, finely ground minerals and synthetic resin, he pushes the limits of modern art to create pieces that represent harmony between the abstract and representational. By mastering the extremely difficult use of resin, Robinson takes the traditional methods of mixing pigments to the next level. His knowledge of chemistry allows him to create pure pigments untainted by others in close proximity. Applying up to 10 layers, he creates suspended rivers of hardened color. The result is a glass-like finish that delights as well as pushes the constraints of the viewer’s visual experience.

Born in Guadalajara, Mexico in 1974, and was raised in Arizona. Robinson’s passion for art and film began at an early age. After graduation from the Academy of Art College in 2000, he worked on several feature films and music videos. With a love for travel he spent time abroad studying art and cultures from all over the world.

Robinson returned to Arizona, where he was recognized for his artistic photography, which captured the distinctive characteristics of the regional landscape. In 2005, he moved to Mexico to focus on his first documentary film illustrating the story of compassion and education overcoming the impoverished life of orphans. Inspired by this life experience, Robinson returned to Arizona and pursued his life-long desire to concentrate on his original fine art.

“I often find deep inspiration in mother nature. The elements of water, fire, wind, and earth are present within the abstract forms of my work. My use of ground minerals and my extensive background in photographing the landscape give my work a strong connection to nature. It is significant for me to create a piece that is not only visually stimulating, but also evokes emotion. When I paint I live in the moment. I am consumed with emotions and color. It’s a methodical process of discovering the unknown." - Damian Robinson
